History

Jeanne (Text) - Democratic Republic of Congo

« Jeanne is an Ituri refugee in Uganda. The Ugandan authorities have scattered the displaced persons under the protection of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. After being allotted a piece of tarpaulin and one spade, Jeanne and her husband found themselves in the middle of the forest on a plot that needed to be cleared. “How do we clear the forest with a single tool?” she asks. »
