“Tima lives on the little island of Pulau Batu, where the Bajau community settled. These are the ‘gypsies’ of the Flores Sea. ‘Yes, I’m happy to be a woman,’ says Tima. ‘My two brothers take a canoe out to fish every day. If I’d been a boy I’d have done the same and there wouldn’t have been anyone to look after my mother!’
In Pulau Batu, the men fish at sea and the women fish from the shore, not far from the village.”
