« Deuzilia is a Kalunga, born from the interbreeding of Maroons and native Indians on the South African continent. Since the 17th century, in Brazil, her ancestors have formed a self-sufficient community in which individual ownership is a foreign concept, a model of ecological equilibrium. Deuzilia had a happy childhood far from the city before leaving her family haven to become a schoolteacher in the small town of Cavalcante. »
